This week is the three year anniversary of the closing of my house. In honor of that here's a a few photos of the house when I first came to tour it....
Talk about a whole lotta blahhh, huh! Looking at these pictures, I think to myself- wow what a plain white box! This house was the first house that I toured. But the next six houses just couldn't hold a torch to that lovely white box! After a second tour with my grandpa (construction king) and dad I decided to put in an offer. I put in an extremely low ball offer, but to my surprise it was accepted. Next up was the inspection, for which I used US Inspects under referral from a close friend. I was extremely happy with their thorough and fast service. While everything up until this point had gone smoothly, I started to run into snags. The house was not owned by an individual anymore, but had been bought from the previous owner as a part of a relocation package. In the time that I put my offer, the relocation company was bought by another company in some Midwestern state. Subsequently, we had to redo all the paper work and get approval from two companies. This was a SERIOUS drag, but eventually it all worked out. I put my original offer in late January and finally closed in late April.
Oh man, on a personal note- my hair is so short!! Either way, it was a great day! Strangely enough, I closed on my house 2 days before my birthday- what a present for me! I remember leaving work and heading to the lawyer's office feeling like I was going to puke the whole time- what a stressful and exciting day. After closing, myself and a few pals christened the new pad with some bubbly in the back yard on the ONLY furniture the came with the house- one wonky wooden Adirondack chair and ottoman. It wasn't much- but it didn't matter!
Later this week, I'll detail the projects (big and small) we've done since then, post the most current house pictures, and detail the projects I'm still hankering to do.
Hope you're having a great week!
