Pin Cushion Canning Jar: Done!

Well tonight I decided to skip the gym since I am still recovering from some flu like funk, and complete my week day to do. I originally stumbled upon and bookmarked this idea on Apartment Therapy, but after lots of link jumping found the source here at Crazy for Collars! She has a complete tutorial that I followed and you can too.

Items Needed:

Canning jar
Fabric
Glue Gun
Scissors
Pen/Pencil
Cotton balls, batting, etc.

I used a larger canning jar because its what I already had. I have a nasty habit of buying ball jars pretty much anytime I see one! For fabric I chose the yellow floral above that I picked up at a thrift shop sometime back. It was part of a set of two cloth napkins that I've had hanging around on my sewing table. (On a side note, once you get past the whole idea of looking through fabric or sheets at the thrift store, you really can find some interesting retro/vintage prints! But remember to always wash them when you get home.)

The shot above displays the material on the bottom, batting in between and the inner jar lid on top. After arranging the "sandwich," all you have to do is squish it all together, glue the excess fabric to the inner jar lid and then screw the top back on.

Shown above is my finished product. Total cost: $0.00 (I already had all of the items in the house) Total time: Approximately 7 minutes. By adding some ribbon, buttons, funky thread or anything that your crafty gift recipient may like you have an instant simple home made gift in a jiffy!

Now that I have made one for myself, I think I just may have to make one for my Granny too. And I'm thinking I might include cloths pins inside the jar and safety pins on top so that she could use it in her laundry room. I think it'll go well with her chicken collection!
